Universal TV Remote — Discover, Connect, Control
Welcome to Fexo Remote — your universal remote control companion. At Fexo FZC LLC, we believe privacy is a fundamental right. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application (package com.fexo.remote, "the App"), which allows you to discover televisions and media devices on your network, pair with them, and control them from your phone.
By using Fexo Remote, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
We are committed to minimal data collection. Fexo Remote does not require accounts, and we never collect personally identifiable information unless strictly necessary for functionality.
| Data Type | Description | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Device Info | Model, OS version, app version | Optimize performance and compatibility |
| Crash Reports | Anonymous stack traces & diagnostics | Fix bugs and improve stability |
| Usage Analytics | Feature interactions (discover/pair/control) | Understand usage patterns to enhance UX |
| Advertising ID | Google Advertising ID used by our ad partner | Serve and measure ads inside the free app |
We do NOT: Sell personal information, upload the contents of your network scans, control your devices for any purpose other than the commands you send, or track your physical whereabouts.
Local-First Approach: All devices you pair, the credentials they issue, your favourites, and app preferences are stored exclusively on your device. We maintain no remote database containing your devices or your network.
Security Practices: We follow industry best practices: encrypted data transmission (where applicable), secure API communication only for crash reporting, and regular security reviews.
Retention: Since all device and pairing data lives on your device, you can clear app data or uninstall the App to permanently remove all information at any time.
Fexo Remote requests only the permissions necessary to discover, pair with, and control your televisions and media devices. Below is a full breakdown:
| Permission | Why It's Required |
|---|---|
| Precise Location | Requested only on Android 11 and older, where the system requires it before an app may scan for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices. It is used solely to find your TV on the network — we never read, store, or share your whereabouts. |
| Local Network Access | Lets the app talk directly to the TVs and media players on your home network. This is how remote commands actually reach your television. |
| Network Connection Status | Checks whether your phone is online and on Wi-Fi, so the app can warn you before a scan instead of failing silently. |
| Wi-Fi Information | Reads your Wi-Fi network's address range so the app knows which part of the network to search for compatible devices. |
| Bluetooth Connection | Connects to Bluetooth-based remotes and set-top boxes that do not use Wi-Fi. Only used for devices you choose to pair. |
| Bluetooth Scanning | Looks for nearby Bluetooth devices you can control. Scanning runs only while you are on the discovery screen, never in the background. |
| Wi-Fi Multicast | Allows the app to receive the announcement messages TVs broadcast on your network. Without it, most televisions simply never appear in the device list. |
| Internet | Connects to the internet to load app content, ads, and online features, and to send anonymous crash reports. |
| Nearby Wi-Fi Devices | The modern Android replacement for location-based Wi-Fi scanning. It lets the app find nearby televisions without any access to your location. |
| Microphone | Powers voice search, so you can speak a show or app name instead of typing it on the TV. The microphone activates only while you hold the voice button and never runs in the background. |
| Infrared Blaster | On phones with an IR emitter, sends classic infrared signals to older televisions and appliances that are not connected to any network. |
| Vibration | Provides a short haptic tap when you press a remote button, so you can feel the press without looking at your phone. |
We use limited third-party tools solely to maintain app quality and to keep the app free:
No data brokers, and no tracking SDKs beyond the advertising partner named above. Your devices and your network stay yours, always.
Depending on your region (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have rights over your data. Since all user-generated content is stored locally:
Fexo Remote is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will ensure data is promptly removed. Microphone and Bluetooth permissions should be used under parental guidance for younger users.
We may update this policy to reflect operational, legal, or technical changes. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates the latest revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance. For significant updates, we will notify you via in-app notice or on our website.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, your data, or how we handle permissions, please reach out — we're happy to help.
